About this work

This collaborative work, produced by fourteen senior artists from Wangkatjungka community, depicts places of spiritual power in the Great Sandy Desert that lie between Well 33 and Well 42 along the Canning Stock Route. The work encompasses the sites of Kunawarratji, Nibil, Minjoo, Bungabinni, Wanda, Wardabunni, Murguga, Wanjila, Waddawalla, Tiru and Lake Guli. This part of the Great Sandy Desert features salt lakes, shown in the upper left, and claypans, in the bottom left and far right. The salt lakes, including Lake Disappointment, Lake Auld and Tobin Lake, are the remains of ancient river valleys that have been filled in.
