About this work

Valentino Garavani studied fashion in Milan and Paris before opening his couture house in Rome in 1959. Throughout the 1960s his elegant, colourful designs, blending French and Italian styles, attracted high-profile clients like Jacqueline Kennedy. In the 1990s Valentino’s couture and ready-to-wear lines epitomised Italian glamour, celebrating femininity and sensuality, often invoking the allure of Italian aristocracy and cinema icons. Incorporating lustrous fabrics and the designer’s signature red, Valentino’s designs, such as this encrusted evening suit, exude glamour.
