About this work

Pierre Paulin’s elegant Ribbon chair exemplifies the twentieth-century design quest for minimalism, style and comfort, a combination rarely achieved so effectively. Its title succinctly describes the effect Paulin achieved with the fluid line of a steel frame in which the seat, arms, back and legs meld into one continuous line. The chair’s sculptural form is enhanced by the way it flows upwards from its low pedestal-like base. The chair was produced in a range of bright monochrome colours as well as zebra stripes and psychedelic patterned textiles.
