About this work

Since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1993, Melbourne-born Charles Robb’s practice has been marked by an interest in forms of portraiture. His own image dominates his work. In Trophy, 2002, Robb’s self-portrait is mounted upon the wall like a hunter’s prize. The viewer is forced to observe his likeness from above, challenging traditional ideas of portraiture and display, and subverting viewers’ expectations.
