About this work
Anne Dangar taught art to local children and helped run the Moly-Sabata colony, where she stayed until her death in 1951. She made domestic ceramics at local country potteries like Saint-Désirat, decorating them according to Cubist artist Albert Gleizes’ theories. Gleizes decorated some of her pots and, as in this case, Dangar sometimes translated his designs onto her ceramics. This is part of a series of platters known as Virgin with Child surrounded by angels. Dated examples of these plates range from 1942 to 1949; however, the series is thought to have been produced from 1937 onwards.
