About this work
Following seventeen years living and working in London, John Passmore returned to Sydney in 1951. He commenced a teaching position at the Julian Ashton Art School, where his pupils included John Olsen and William Rose. Passmore’s studio at the art school was situated on the top floor of the Mining Museum located on George Street, and it offered a spectacular view of Sydney Harbour and the encompassing Millers Point. As well as demonstrating the influence of Paul Cézanne, Passmore’s art from this period drew significant inspiration from the city and the harbour.
