About this work

Using resin moulds of discarded book spines, Penelope Davis arranges these forms directly on photographic paper and exposes them to coloured light, producing luminous, spectral images. The works trace a process of transformation, reducing books to visual objects while erasing their original content and function. Hovering between fiction and non-fiction, the images evoke associations of memory and obsolescence, referencing the decline of traditional bookmaking and photography’s own mechanical origins.
