About this work

When Nyapanyapa Yunupingu was a young woman, she was gored by a buffalo in a wild apple orchard and traces of this terrifying experience can still be felt through her work. Early paintings such as this one show her figurative use of circles to represent apples. More recent works by the artist show how those same circles have morphed into abstract shapes and meditations on rhythm and tone.
