IB Theory of Knowledge

Mon–Fri, 10 am, 11.30 am, 1 pm, 2.30 pm
Levels 10, VCE
NGV International & The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia

How do you know? What is ‘knowledge’ in visual art? Explore complex ideas in the theory of knowledge in an educator-led session in the Gallery. By engaging with thought-provoking works of art and design, students will reflect on the significance of shared and personal knowledge, to both the artist and viewer, when making knowledge claims about visual art. Consider how different subjective experiences, preferences and cultural backgrounds inform the way artists create, and how viewers respond to and interpret art.

Students will:

  • Discuss and describe the social function of art.
  • Explore and debate the scope and nature of knowledge in relation to the visual arts.
  • Discuss and debate questions of aesthetic value utilising works from the Collection to develop and illustrate ideas.

Duration: 2 hours
Cost: $22 per student
