Introductory Floortalk | MOTHER: Stories from the NGV Collection

Explore how artists across history and cultures have captured the many dimensions of motherhood. MOTHER: Stories from the NGV Collection reveals bold, moving and sometimes challenging stories of motherhood. Through lively discussion, examine themes of identity, resilience, mythology and connections between motherhood, nature and Country.

Please note, the content and discussion focus for this program will be tailored to the specific year level or group.

Students will:

  • Critically examine representations of motherhood in art from different social, cultural and historical contexts
  • Analyse the ways artists use visual language to express identity, power, care and connection to place
  • Evaluate how contemporary and historical artworks engage with ideas of motherhood, gender and broader social contexts

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $11 Secondary School students/ $18 Tertiary students

We require four weeks notice for all bookings.

Changes to your booking must be made in writing. Changes can be made up to 14 days prior to your visit. Invoices will be sent prior to the visit. Full program fees will be incurred for late cancellations or amendments.

Please provide details of any relevant themes and skills your students are learning about at school. While we cannot offer individually tailored programs, our museum educators will consider this information when selecting and discussing works of art during the program.

Date Selection

We recommend you provide three date options for your program to avoid disappointment. We will do our best to accommodate your first preference, however due to high demand this may not always be possible.
