Creative Studio Workshop | Italian Style
Levels 3–10

Mon – Fri, 10am & 12.30pm
NGV International

Connect students with centuries of Italian culture, creativity and innovation at the NGV! Led by an NGV Educator, students will explore works ranging from Roman antiquities and Renaissance paintings to contemporary design and discuss how Italian artists and designers have used materials, pattern, ornament and form to communicate ideas and create their own distinctive styles. Following the gallery experience students will get creative in the NGV studios, designing and decorating their own ceramic plaque inspired by Italian ceramics and other works in the NGV Collection.

Students will

  • View and discuss a wide range of Italian works in the NGV Collection, considering how artists use pattern, ornament, materials and form to communicate ideas and develop distinctive styles
  • Experiment with elements of art and design principles in a hands-on activity inspired by Italian ceramics
  • Develop their own ornamental design inspired by works encountered in the Gallery

Format: In-Gallery discussion and studio workshop

Duration: 2 hours
Cost: $24 per student

Supported by the Italian Australian Foundation.
