What is art? What is the purpose and value of art? What is the intentionalist fallacy? In this educator led gallery session students will explore a range of thought-provoking works in the NGV Collection and debate problems in value theory with a focus on aesthetic value and interpretation of artworks.
Learning Objectives
Formulate philosophical questions arising from the problems central to aesthetic value and the interpretation of artworks
Discuss and debate key philosophical concepts and questions related to aesthetic value in response to works in the NGV Collection
Develop informed responses to problems in value theory and explain, defend and refine those responses in philosophical exchanges with others
