VCE ART MAKING AND EXHIBITING: Future Country
Country Road + NGV First Nations Commissions 2026

Mon–Fri, 10am, 11.30am, 1pm & 2.30pm
NGV Australia

FUTURE COUNTRY pairs eight emerging First Nations artists and designers with established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives. The works reflect a rich diversity of artforms spanning weaving, photography, sculpture, possum-skin-cloak making, moving image, sound and design. How did curators, exhibition designers and conservators help shape this exhibition?
Explore this question in an educator-led program designed for VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students. Through focused analysis and discussion complemented with a downloadable exhibition factsheet, students will unpack the curatorial decisions, exhibition design strategies and conservation practices involved in preparing and presenting artworks in Future Country at NGV Australia.

Students will:

  • Identify and discuss the curatorial considerations in Future Country.
  • Investigate, identify and evaluate the methods used and considerations involved in the presentation, conservation and care of specific artworks .
  • Examine the exhibition design and consider how this shapes the audience’s experience.
