Discover how ideas and themes are presented in a major NGV exhibition. In this educator-led program for VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students, analyse and discuss some of the curatorial considerations, exhibition design ethos, and conservation methods involved in preparing and presenting Westwood|Kawakubo. The program, delivered in the Learn theatre or studios, will cover the curatorial rationale, exhibition design considerations as well as the conservation of a range of materials including works on paper and garments using a variety of fabrics.

This program aligns with VCE Art Making and Exhibiting Learning Outcomes:

  • Unit 2: Understand, develop and resolve, Area of Study 1, Outcome 1
  • Unit 3: Collect, extend and connect, Area of Study 3, Outcome 3
  • Unit 4: Consolidate, present and conserve, Area of Study 3, Outcome 3

Students will:

  • Identify and discuss the curatorial considerations in Westwood|Kawakubo.
  • Investigate, identify and evaluate the methods used and considerations involved in the presentation, conservation and care of specific artworks
  • Examine the exhibition design, including the integration of works from the NGV Collection, and consider how this shapes the audience’s experience.
    • Duration: 45 mins plus self-guided time in the exhibition

      Changes to your booking must be made in writing. Changes can be made up to 14 days prior to your visit. Invoices will be sent prior to the visit. Full program fees will be incurred for late cancellations or amendments.

      If less than 10 students attend a program, minimum fees may apply
      Students must be supervised at all times by a teacher or adult. We request:
      • At least one teacher/adult for every 20 students for students in Year 2 or above.
      • At least one teacher/adult for every 15 students for K to Year 1 students.

      Please provide details of any relevant themes and skills your students are learning about at school. While we cannot offer individually tailored programs, our museum educators will consider this information when selecting and discussing works of art during the program.

      We recommend you provide three date options for your program to avoid disappointment. We will do our best to accommodate your first preference, however due to high demand this may not always be possible.

Any amendments, including changes to participant numbers, must be made by email at least 14 days prior to the program. Invoices will be sent prior to the visit.
