Discover how ideas and themes are presented in a major NGV exhibition. In this educator-led program for VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students, analyse and discuss some of the curatorial considerations, exhibition design ethos, and conservation methods involved in preparing and presenting Westwood|Kawakubo. This illustrated introduction to the exhibition will be presented in the NGV Learn studio/theatre prior to students viewing the exhibition and will include discussion of the curatorial rationale, exhibition design considerations as well as the conservation of a range of materials including works on paper and garments using a variety of fabrics.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and discuss the curatorial considerations in Westwood|Kawakubo.
  • Investigate, identify and evaluate the methods used and considerations involved in the presentation, conservation and care of specific artworks
  • Examine the exhibition design, including the integration of works from the NGV Collection, and consider how this shapes the audience’s experience.
