Your accessible pre-visit guide to the Margaret Preston exhibition, with information on navigation and layout, ticketing and sensory environments.
The exhibition runs from 4 September 2026 to 31 January 2027.

Margaret Preston is on display at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Fed Square.
The exhibition is open between 10am and 5pm daily from 4 September 2026 to 31 January 2027, apart from 25 December, Christmas Day, when the Gallery is closed.

Tickets
It’s free to enter the NGV and see the Collection, but visitors need to buy a ticket to attend the Margaret Preston exhibition.

Exhibition tickets are for a specific time. You will be able to select an entry time when booking your ticket. You can stay inside the exhibition for as long as you wish, or until the Gallery closes at 5pm.
The exhibition follows a set path. Once you enter the exhibition, you won’t be able to come and go unless you need a bathroom or a break for disability or health reasons. If you do need to leave and come back in, you can exit through the exhibition entrance and let the security team member know that you will be coming back in.
Children of all ages are warmly welcomed in the exhibition.
Companion Cards and Carer Cards
The NGV recognises the Companion Card and the Carer Card.
Companion Card holders receive concession-priced tickets to all exhibitions and programs for themselves and a complimentary ticket for their companion. Complimentary tickets for companions can be collected from the Information Desk at the Gallery and do not need to be booked in advance, even if tickets are sold out for that session.
Carer Card holders receive concession-priced tickets to all exhibitions and programs.
Wheelchair accessibility
Margaret Preston is on display on Level 3 of NGV Australia, which you can reach by lifts, escalators or stairs.
The most accessible path to NGV Australia is via the Fed Square Atrium from Flinders Street, or via the extension of Russell Street, which also has a car or taxi drop-off point. Both entrances to NGV Australia are on street level and have automatic doors.
For those with limited mobility, we recommend entering via the Russell Street extension or via the Fed Square atrium, off Flinders Street, as the outdoor path through the main Fed Square area has a sloped and uneven surface.
The Margaret Preston exhibition and all public areas at NGV Australia, including the café and NGV design store, are fully wheelchair accessible. There are accessible bathrooms on each level.

Facilities
There are accessible bathrooms on all levels, and baby-change facilities on Ground Level.
A Changing Places bathroom is located nearby, approximately 600 metres from NGV Australia at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall. The most accessible path is through the Fed Square Atrium and along Flinders Street, turning left on Swanston Street and crossing the Princes Bridge.
Assistance dogs
Accredited assistance dogs are welcome at the NGV.
Please ensure your assistance dog is wearing their jacket or harness while at the Gallery.
Access aids
Access aids including self-regulation fidget devices, disposable earplugs, magnifying sheets and coloured overlays are available for free hire from the Information Desk.

Exhibition content
The Margaret Preston exhibition presents paintings, prints, ceramics, sculptures and installation, plus archival materials including photography, notebooks and printed materials.
No adult themes are depicted in the displays.
Layout and navigation
Exhibition sensory environment
Gallery areas are air-conditioned, maintaining a temperature between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius.
The sensory map shows the locations of seating and audiovisual content.
Seating
Bench seating is available throughout the exhibition.
Lightweight fold-out stools are available for free hire from the Information Desk and can be taken into exhibition spaces.
Auslan
Free Auslan interpretation of any public program is available upon request. Please contact us online, allowing a minimum of one week’s notice.
Large-print artwork labels
Access the artwork labels online on your device and adjust them to suit your viewing needs. Printed copies and iPads will be available free hire from the Information Desk, within a few weeks of the exhibition opening.
