taniguchi-fumie_channel

At the age of just 25, artist Taniguchi Fumie painted Preparing to go out, one of the most important works of her career. Referencing a historical style of painted screen, the work symbolises the increasing social and financial independence experienced by young women in Japan during the 1930s. Assistant Curator of Asian Art, Annika Aitken, introduces this work in the NGV Collection.
