Marking the opening of CARTIER, hear from two internationally renowned jewellery experts, as Pierre Rainero, Cartier’s Director of Image, Style and Heritage joins Helen Molesworth, Senior Curator of Jewellery at the V&A, for a conversation led by NGV Senior Curators Dr Miranda Wallace and Amanda Dunsmore.

Experience the elegance and exhilaration of CARTIER at NGV this winter. Featuring nearly 400 extraordinary jewels, gems and jewellery objects, the exhibition traces the evolution of Cartier’s enduring legacy in art, design and craftsmanship.
The exhibition has been created by V&A, London, in partnership with NGV and in collaboration with Cartier. Exclusive to Melbourne, CARTIER features loans from significant international collections, alongside highlights from the Cartier Collection.
The exhibition design is a collaboration between NGV, Studio Sabine Marcelis and CLOUD, two multidisciplinary design practices based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Pierre Rainero is the Director of Style and Heritage at Cartier. He started his career in 1980 in advertising at Ogilvy & Mather before joining Cartier in Paris in 1984 as International Advertising Director. After a few years as Marketing and Communication Director at Cartier in Italy, he returned to Paris to occupy several positions at Cartier International, heading Research and Strategy, Communication Department, the Artistic Direction of Cartier creations. Since 2003 he has been the Style and Heritage Director. In this role he oversees the stylistic dimension of Cartier’s creation. He is also responsible for the Maison’s heritage policy, particularly concerning the Archives and the Cartier Collection which brings together more than 3000 historical pieces, as such Pierre Rainero is the privileged interlocutor of museums and cultural institutions around the world, regarding exhibitions dedicated to Cartier creations.
Helen Molesworth is a jewellery historian and gemmologist, whose 25-year career has spanned the global gem and jewellery industry from auction houses to academic posts. Her passion for gems has led her all over the world, including the ruby mines of Burma, the emerald shafts of Colombia, the sapphire beds of Sri Lanka, and salerooms and collections from Hong Kong to New York. For ten years she was a jewellery specialist for Sotheby’s and Christie’s in Geneva and London, where she managed such sales as the private jewellery collection of HRH The Princess Margaret in 2006. She is the Senior Curator of Jewellery at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London, where she lead-curated their blockbuster exhibition, Cartier, in 2025. Helen has a degree in Classics from Oxford University, is a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
Dr Miranda Wallace is Senior Curator, International Exhibitions at the NGV, where she works on the development and presentation of international loan exhibitions. These have included French Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2025), Pierre Bonnard (2023), The Picasso Century (2022) and Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto (2021).
Amanda Dunsmore is Senior Curator of International Decorative Arts and Antiquities at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and studied Fine Art and Egyptology at Monash University. She worked for many years as a ceramic specialist in Egypt before broadening her curatorial practice in the field of European decorative arts. Her research interests include late eighteenth century English interior design, in particular the work of James Wyatt, and early twentieth century design and the rise of modernism. She has curated numerous exhibitions for the NGV, including Spectrum: An Exploration of Colour (2021), Japonisme: Japan and the Birth of Modern Art (2018), Nordic Cool: Modernist Design from the NGV Collection (2015) and Bugatti: Carlo, Rembrandt, Ettore, Jean (2009). She was one of the NGV senior curators for the 2024 Melbourne Winter Masterpiece exhibition, Pharaoh (2024).
