In this exclusive talk developed especially for NGV Members, learn about Edvard Munch, one of the most admired and well-known artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Revered for his unique style and as a pioneer of Expressionism, Munch’s art was informed by deeply personal experiences yet retains a universality in its contemplation of the human spirit and condition.

His momentous work Early spring, 1903-05, recently acquired for the NGV Collection and now on display at NGV International, is the first painting on canvas by Munch to enter an Australian public collection.

In this Members-only talk, NGV curator Laurie Benson introduces the Norwegian Expressionist artist and and shares the story behind the work and its journey into the NGV Collection.

Early spring, 1903-05, is currently on display on Level 2 at NGV International. The NGV warmly thanks the John William Fawcett Bequest, Angela Glover Bequest and Carol Sisson for acquiring this work for the Collection.
