Discover the fundamentals of visual art in this free, interactive online series for primary school students. Offered each term, these programs will spark curiosity and creativity while deepening students’ understanding of the elements of art. Join an NGV educator live online each term to focus on a different art element, and explore how artists from a variety of cultural and historical contexts use line, shape, colour, texture and more to express unique ideas and convey meaning.

These programs support the Exploring and Developing Practices strands of the Victorian and Australian Visual Arts Curricula.

  • Identify the elements of art in a range of works of art
  • Explore how artists use art elements and visual conventions to express ideas and meaning
  • Reflect on personal creative and expressive choices and how they communicate ideas

Learning Objectives Levels 3–6

  • Identify and describe the elements of art within diverse works of art
  • Explore ways artists purposefully use visual conventions, processes and materials to communicate ideas and meaning
