About the Artist

Gary Lee is a Larrakia artist from Darwin who has worked as a visual artist, fashion designer, playwright, curator and writer. As a visual artist he has produced photo media-based work which explores Larrakia history, celebrating and challenging notions of identity and beauty. He won the Works on Paper Award at the 2022 Telstra NATSIAAs and his publication Heat: Gary Lee, selected texts, art & anthropology (2023) won Best Art Writing by an Indigenous Writer at the 2024 Arts Writing and Publishing Awards (AAANZ).

His exhibition Another Other: The Photo-Politics of Gary Lee is currently on display at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia.
