‘Agnes, you’ve got to paint only what you like.’

NGV Members are invited to take a closer look at American artist Agnes Martin’s 1995 painting Untitled #16, which is the focus of the 2026 NGV Annual Appeal.

Hear from Dr Ted Gott, Senior Curator of International Art as he introduces the work exclusively for NGV Members, with all proceeds from ticket purchases supporting the 2026 Annual Appeal.

Painted in the final, luminous chapter of the artist’s career, Untitled #16 belongs to a series of delicately coloured and finely textured canvases that awaken viewers to a transcendent experience of beauty.

Before attending the talk, experience the painting in person at NGV International, where it is currently on display in the 20th Century Galleries, Level 3.

Your contribution will help enable NGV to acquire this important work, and will support us to continue building a rich and inspiring Collection.
