Join us to learn more about Giambattista Tiepolo’s The Finding of Moses in this exclusive talk just for NGV Members.

In 1958, the NGV purchased The Finding of Moses as a painting by the Venetian artist Sebastiano Ricci. It retained that attribution until 2010, when, following conservation treatment and art historical research, the NGV reattributed it to Venice’s greatest artist of the eighteenth century: Giambattista Tiepolo.

NGV Senior Conservator of Paintings Carl Villis shares the story behind this work, and the intriguing discoveries its research uncovered that make the backstory to this painting one of the most remarkable of any work in the NGV collection.
