No auditions. No cost. No long-term commitment. Just the joy of coming together in the gallery to sing in harmony.

WHAT IS NGV CHOIR FOR A DAY?

It’s a celebration of music, community and the power of different voices joining together in harmony.

SAVE THE DATE

The choir will take place from 12–3pm on Saturday 19 September at NGV International.

We will gather to rehearse together from 12pm before the performance at 2pm.

Spaces for each vocal part are limited, so please register your interest via the form below and we will notify you if you have been selected.

Participation in the choir is free.

LEARNING THE MUSIC

Join us as we raise our voices to Adele’s Easy on Me with an arrangement by Steven Hodgson from The Consort of Melbourne.

Sheet music and recordings of each part will be sent via email for you to learn ahead of 19 September. Don’t worry – it won’t need to be perfect!

On the day, there will be rehearsals for each vocal part as well as a whole group rehearsal, before we come together again to sing in the Gallery, for all to enjoy. More details will be emailed to you closer to the date.

FAQs

I’d like to register multiple people, how do I do this?

We ask all attendees to register on an individual basis.

How long do I have to register?

Registrations close when all places are filled or at 9am on Monday 7 September. Places are limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. We will update the website to notify you once all positions are filled.

I’ve registered, now what?

Once you’ve registered, we’ll keep in touch to confirm your participation. We also need to balance the vocal parts, so if we end up with too many of one particular part, we may contact you to ask if you’re able to switch – soprano to alto, for instance.

What if I’m running late?

We ask that you arrive 15 minutes ahead of time. After we commence, we will need to close the doors to ensure the performance can take place on time.

Do I need to be there for the full 3 hours?

Yes, as this time includes preparation and rehearsals in our Learning Studios ahead of a performance in the Gallery. We can only accommodate participants who have joined us for the rehearsals in the performance – this is the fun part anyway!

Is there an age requirement?

This event is for all ages but children under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

When should I expect to receive the sheet music and learning tracks?

These will be shared via email 10 – 14 days before the event. Please don’t forget to check your junk or spam folders. If you don’t receive the content, please contact us.

Do I need to print my own sheet music?

We will provide copies on the day for rehearsals and performances. Alternatively, you’re free to read from a tablet or similar device. Please note that the sheet music is licensed for the NGV Choir for a Day event only (including preparation and performance) and any other use is prohibited.

Do I need to be an expert or have prior experience, to participate?

No, not at all. We invite everyone to join us.

Can my own choir group attend?

This is a community program, and we invite everyone to register. With that in mind, we can’t exclusively align with an established choir group. If your group is interested in participating, we encourage members to register on an individual basis.

What will be provided?

Ahead of time, you’ll receive sheet music and recordings of each part for you to practice at home. On the day, we’ll provide a closed space for rehearsals as sectionals and as a whole group as well as a dedicated space in the Gallery for the performance. Water and sheet music will also be provided.
