Take your observation and drawing skills to a new level in this immersive, hands-on, full-day workshop at the NGV.

Start your morning with NGV educators and some fast-paced drawing challenges and conversations in the Gallery inspired by mark-making techniques in works by leading Australian artists.

In the afternoon, join artist Lily Mae Martin for two immersive observational drawing sessions in the Gallery. Working directly from sculptural works in the NGV Collection, you will learn to turn what you see into realistic and confident drawings.

You will build practical techniques for capturing light, tone and form; tackle proportion and composition with strategies used by professional artists then finish the day with some extended time on a drawing supported by expert tips and thoughtful feedback.

About the artist

Lily Mae Martin is an award-winning Melbourne-based artist whose practice is based primarily in drawing. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in drawing from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA).
