About The Victorian Young Leaders First Nations Program
The Victorian Young Leaders First Nations (VYLFN) program is a pilot leadership initiative for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 9 and 10. As part of the Victorian Department of Education’s program, 17 students worked with Māoriland Charitable Trust and IndigUcation to create four short films exploring identity, leadership, culture and self-determination. Developed through an on-Country learning experience and later showcased at the Māoriland Rangatahi International Film Festival in Aotearoa New Zealand, the films reflect Indigenous ways of knowing, being and storytelling. Through film, students share powerful perspectives on culture, community, and leadership through a First Nations Lens.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are advised that these films may include images and voices of people who are now deceased.
The Victorian Young Leaders First Nations program is funded by the Department of Education, Victoria. The program is a collaboration between the International Education and Partnerships Division and the Koorie Outcomes Division in consultation with the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated.
