A State Memorial will be held on Friday 22 March 2019 to celebrate the life of Dame Margaret Scott AC DBE LLD (Hon).

The Memorial will recognise Dame Margaret’s extraordinary contribution to ballet, dance, education and cultural life in Australia.

A champion of aspiring dancers and choreographers as well as a much loved teacher, Dame Margaret was central to the founding of The Australian Ballet in 1962 and The Australian Ballet School two years later.

A leading ballerina in her own right, Dame Margaret is widely credited with pioneering Australia’s classical dance traditions and leaves an enduring dance legacy.

The Memorial will be held at NGV International, 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne. Doors will open at 9.00 am with the service commencing at 10.00 am.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.
