Unlock the power of your words and the potential of your voice with spoken word poet Luka Lesson. Develop strategies for producing impactful poetry and craft your own meaningful responses to artworks that inspire social change from the exhibition We Change the World.
This online program includes a presentation by Luka Lesson, followed by a virtual tour of We Change the World and poetry writing exercises facilitated by NGV Educators.
Students will have their cameras disabled for the duration of the program but will be able to use the chat function to communicate with the facilitators. Microphones can be enabled when students wish to share their poetry, and students will be invited to present their work on Padlet.
Learning Objectives
- Analyse the meaning and messages communicated in works of art and design
- Develop strategies for articulating meaningful written and verbal responses to works of art and design that advocate for change
- Apply poetry writing techniques to an original composition that responds to works in the exhibition We Change the World
- Present this original piece of poetry in a spoken word performance
Speaker: Luka Lesson
Luka Lesson is a rapper, poet and recording artist of Greek heritage. A former Australian Poetry Slam Champion, Lesson has performed his own work with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and his lyrics are studied by universities and schools globally. Luka has toured with the likes of Akala (UK), Lowkey (UK) and Dr Cornel West (USA).
This program is part of Creative Catalyst, a program for high ability students attending Victorian Government schools.
