2025 NGV Annual Appeal

This year, the NGV is seeking your support to help us secure Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s Officer and waitress (Offizier und Kellnerin), 1915 for the Gallery’s Collection.

Support the appeal

Spark the imagination, generate new ideas, and share thoughts in these lively online sessions about art for children aged 3 – 5 years and their parents and carers. In each session, children discover works of art from the NGV Collection and watch a demonstration of an art-making activity that can be made at home or kindergarten using everyday materials.

This activity is suitable to join from home, kindergarten or playgroup. Groups are welcome to attend. Participation in the program’s chat function is encouraged. Attendees’ microphones and cameras will be turned off.

Under 5s | Eel Traps & Tales

Imagine going on a long road trip with your family, driving past mountains, rivers and all sorts of amazing sights! Australian eels do something similar, only in water. They travel thousands of kilometres, making their way down rivers to the ocean to release their eggs.

Discover these fascinating creatures and learn how First Nations peoples have made eel traps for thousands of years, through artworks like Maree Clarke’s shimmering glass eel trap, Ancestral memory I, 2019, and Aunty Kim Wardin’s impressive bronze 8-meter-long eel trap Iuk bagurrk gunga, 2023, on display in the NGV moat.

Then enjoy a reading of a favourite picture book and an eel-inspired making activity to try at home or kindergarten. Perfect for curious young minds and their grown-ups.
