First Nations Art Series
Supporting the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and their commitment to promoting First Nations art, culture and perspectives, this free online program is designed to encourage young children’s learning and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
Developed for use either in the classroom or at home, the online program introduces children to Aboriginal art and culture through engaging, age-appropriate content created especially for them.
Across a twenty-minute program, children learn about the artworks, listen to stories written by First Nations authors, and express their ideas through interactive activities.
Groups are welcome to attend. Participation in the program’s chat function is encouraged. Attendees’ microphones and cameras will be turned off.
Under 5s | Fly with Bogong Moths
Bogong moths can fly up to 1,000 kilometres during their yearly migration. In this session, children learn about this special Australian insect and their importance to First Nations peoples, and take part in a drawing activity developed by Dr Deanne Gilson, a proud Wadawurrung woman living on her ancestral Country in Ballarat. The online program concludes with a storytime session and activity that can be completed at home or in the classroom.
