First Nations Art Series
Supporting the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and their commitment to promoting First Nations art, culture and perspectives, this free online program is designed to encourage young children’s learning and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
Developed for use either in the classroom or at home, the online program introduces children to Aboriginal art and culture through engaging, age-appropriate content created especially for them.
Across a twenty-minute program, children learn about the artworks, listen to stories written by First Nations authors, and express their ideas through interactive activities.
Groups are welcome to attend. Participation in the program’s chat function is encouraged. Attendees’ microphones and cameras will be turned off.
Under 5s | Journey of the Eels
Imagine a long road trip with your family, passing mountains and rivers. Australian eels travel long distances too. Learn about these fascinating creatures and how First Nations peoples have made eel traps for thousands of years, through art works held in the NGV Collection. Then, enjoy a reading of a picture book and try an eel-inspired activity at home or in the classroom.
