In the lead-up to NAIDOC Week 2026, join Taungurung and Djadjawurung artist, fashion designer and educator Cassie Fisher Patterson for a live, online weaving demonstration broadcast from NGV. Watch Cassie at work and learn how she uses natural materials to create objects ranging from the functional to the fashionable. As she weaves, Cassie will share her journey as an artist and reflect on the importance of Country as a source of creativity, culture and food. You’ll also hear about the animal kin who inspire her practice—Pepe, a 60-year-old emu; Mr Beaky, a blue Taungurung-speaking budgerigar; and her newest feathered friend, Lil Bean.

About the artist:

She has exhibited nationally and internationally and her artworks have been acquired by the NGV, Koorie Heritage Trust Collection, and Magistrate’s Court of Victoria.
