About this work

Redfern interior, from Dianne Jones’s acclaimed 2003 Australian Photography series, sees the artist’s self-insertion into David Moore’s 1949 photograph of the same title, also held in the NGV Collection. Using both analogue and digital photo-media techniques, her work reimagines Australian art history through cultural commentary, inserting herself into famous works that have infiltrated the Australian public consciousness. Through this photograph, Jones highlights the ongoing disadvantages faced by Indigenous women and mothers across the Country.
