Join us for the NGVWA Spring Lunch with Joanna Murray-Smith AM, Australia’s leading playwright, screenwriter, novelist, librettist and newspaper columnist. Produced and translated all over the world including Broadway, the West End and the Royal National Theatre London, Murray-Smith’s plays have been read by actors including Meryl Streep, Annette Bening, Laura Linney, Dame Eileen Atkins and many others.

The NGVWA Spring Lunch features the coveted raffle with a prize pool valued at more than $20,000. Guests have the chance to win exceptional prizes generously offered by Captain’s Choice, Paspaley, Royal Mail Hotel Dunkeld and Trader House.

About the speaker

Joanna Murray-Smith AM

Murray-Smith’s plays include the recent adaptation of The Talented Mr Ripley and Julia at the Arts Centre, as well as Switzerland, Honour, Songs for Nobodies, Bombshells, The Gift, Love-Child, Rapture, Nightfall, American Song and L’Appartement.

She has recently adapted her play Switzerland for the screen, which featured Helen Mirren. It will be released in 2026 as A Talent for Murder. She is currently adapting her play Honour for the screen, Charlotte Wood’s The Weekend for the screen and Stoneyard Devotional for the stage. Murray-Smith has adapted many classics for contemporary audiences, including Hedda Gabler, A Doll’s House and Bergman’s Scenes From a Marriage for Sir Trevor Nunn in London. Her adaptation of Uncle Vanya has just finished its season at MTC. She has also written opera libretti and three novels. Murray-Smith captivates audiences and will speak about her creative life and career journey.
