Erez Nevi Pana’s Crystalline 2020 will be one of the world’s first commissioned works of salt-based architecture. The work examines a metamorphosis of salt as a basic raw material into a deliberate refined composition that interprets crystal growth and natural processes as an architectural practice.
This project speaks of the need for restoration of the Dead Sea area, polluted by salt as a by-product of industry, and postulates that salt-based architecture could introduce new and more sustainable paradigms for housing, tourism, and public works.
Prior to NGV Triennial opening on 19 December at NGV International, Pana discusses the concept and creative process behind his design project with NGV’s Senior Curator of Contemporary Design and Architecture Ewan McEoin.
The NGV warmly thanks Triennial Major Supporters The Andrew and Geraldine Buxton Foundation, The Michael and Janet Buxton Foundation and MAB Corporation Pty Ltd for their joint support of Erez Nevi Pana’s Crystalline 2020.
The NGV’s success is built on the dedicated support of our philanthropic community. Through the NGV’s Annual Giving program, we invite supporters to make a gift towards areas of the Gallery you feel most passionate about. Donations of all sizes are welcome. Learn more
