Physical description
The quilt is square in shape, constructed with yellow and black cotton fabric and machine sewn applique. The ground in black is overlayed with intricate cut-out pieces of yellow fabric. These pieces form a continuous border around the edges and centre medallion. The design combines organic shapes with distinctive pineapple motifs. The quilt design is dominated by the central decoration of a circlet of pineapples radiating out from a large spiky flower. Each applique motif is machine-sewn to the black ground using yellow thread, and a zigzag stitch. When the quilt is reversed the detailed stitching is revealed showing an outline of the pattern. Along the back of the top edge is sewn a piece of Velcro for attaching the quilt for display.
