Gareth Sansom often takes breaks from working in his studio to watch films, with references found in his body of work. Sansom’s 2011 work Bates Motel takes its title from Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic film Psycho – one of three films that Gareth re-watches every year.

Considered a classic of psychological horror films, Psycho tells the story of secretary Marion Crane and her visit to a secluded motel, encountering the strange owner-manager Norman Bates.
