Brodie Neill’s most recent works focus on the environmental phenomenon of ocean plastic waste. Collaborating with an international network of scientists, researchers, beachcombers, engineers, artisans and manufacturers, Neill collects and reconstitutes small fragments of washed up blue and green plastic to produce a composite ‘ocean terrazzo’. In a contemporary interpretation of an eighteenth-century table, Neill used this ‘ocean terrazzo’ to create Gyro, table, 2016, for NGV Triennial, inlaid to depict the Earth’s longitudinal and latitudinal lines.

Brodie Neill discusses his work on display and how innovation could lead to a solution to this global environmental problem.
