Unit 3 – SAT 1 – Criterion 1 –

There is detailed explanation of subject matter to be developed and communicated.

I am mainly looking to explore security in nature with organic forms, and how there is a big difference between manmade security and naturally occurring security. I will show this with the experimentation and use of organic materials combined with more mechanical materials and forms such as locks and safes, as well as contained spaces.

My first Potential Direction, an illustration of the gradual disintegration of a cocoon, provided the inspiration, technique, aesthetic and art form for my first artwork, which is a book depicting the decaying process of a cocoon. This illustration is strongly reflected in my final work, in which I have created a series of nine illustrations of a disintegrating cocoon within a handmade book, achieving a sense of a story being told and also containment inside the book.

Documentation is clear and comprehensive. Her evaluation uses appropriate terminology of how finished artworks were refined and presented, how relationships between them were established and how materials, techniques and aesthetic qualities have been applied to communicate and resolve ideas.

The whimsical, delicate and organic aesthetic qualities communicated my ideas of the illusion of security and the decay of natural symbols of security and the use of natural materials such as human hair, plant fibres, cotton, muslin, paper, coffee and linen thread also realised and resolved these ideas.

Unit 1 – SAT 1 – Criterion 10 –

Ruby has provided highly reflective discussion and analysis using appropriate terminology on how ideas have been communicated and realised in all of the finished artworks

The process in which I created this book, began with cutting the selected cold-pressed 250 gsm paper to size, creating a template for the positioning of each drawing, and illustrating each cocoon separately on each page. Squares of muslin were then cut to size and glued.
