Physical description
(a) Sleeveless mint green tulle net dress with mint green silk applique patchwork with plastic raffia stitching. The dress features a dropped waist with v-shaped double layered panel at the centre front. Plastic raffia ribbons are stitched to the panel at the proper right. The back features three panels cut on the diagonal at the centre back. The centre front top panel is heavily embroidered with glass blue beads, shell applique and plastic raffia. Self-tie grosgrain ribbon at the proper left and right side, ties to centre back. (b) Belt is plaited plastic with thirteen gold metal shells woven through, finished with rubber bands at both ends.

Isabela Capeto’s work is defined by its insistence on intricate detailing, its handmade quality and its festive patterning and colour. Maena, from the 18-40-43-TP collection, is a fine example of the extravagant detailing involved in her practice. The collection title references a Pantone colour code – the pale blue tone which evokes the sea, heat and the Rio de Janeiro sky for Capeto, reflecting her Rio-based atelier. Maena has fine silk appliqué patchwork and beading embellishment, which are signature elements of Capeto’s designs.
