About this work
The Hardware Club was a queer venue located at 43 Hardware Lane in Melbourne’s CBD in the 1980s. During his first and only trip to Melbourne in February 1984, Keith Haring made several visits to the club, dancing to disco and funk music into the early hours. During one of his visits, Haring spraypainted the panels on either side of the DJ booth with two of the most iconic motifs from his distinctive visual language: a dancing ‘television man’ and a ‘dancing dog’.
