About this work
These two panels originally formed part of the DJ booth at the Hardware Club in Melbourne, and were painted by Keith Haring during his visit in 1984. Haring was invited to Australia to undertake a series of public street art projects, including a temporary mural on the Waterwall at the National Gallery of Victoria and a mural in Collingwood. These panels show Haring’s trademark images of ‘man with television head’ and ‘dancing dog’, painted in a bi-chromatic scheme of fluid white lines on a black background. Haring developed his images and techniques as a graffiti artist in the subways of New York.
