About this work
David Moore’s 1949 photograph, Redfern Interior presents a picture of hardship. In 1988, Moore recounted the experience of being invited by the elder woman in the picture to show her families desperate situation to the world; “In a cramped and sordid Redfern lane I was approached by a woman who said, ‘You’re from the Press. Come and photograph this and publish it in your paper.’ ”
