About this work
In his paintings, Melbourne-based artist Juan Ford engages with realism and explores our relationship with the natural world. Employing Ford’s signature realist technique, You depicts the figure of a woman entirely camouflaged in eucalyptus leaves and branches. The softly coloured gradient background suggests a sandstorm, giving the impression of the figure suddenly appearing in front of the viewer. With thousands of individual gum leaves in shades of grey-green, Ford painted the work from a life-sized sculptural model he created from found native Australian plants.
