Conder’s Rickett’s Point, 1890, purchased 1951, had been reframed some time after purchase. The frame was characteristic of the Whistlerian frames made by the John Thallon company through the 1940s and 1950s. (above)
The painting appears in an earlier frame in a photograph from the National Art Gallery of New South Wales dated to 1918.
This frame was proposed for the reframing of the painting in 2000.
A model for the frame was found on Charles Conder’s, Under a summer sun in the collection of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
The frame was borrowed from the NGA in order to accurately construct the reproduction. The frame was extensively documented and casts made of the ornamental sections.
The painting was fitted in the frame in 2002. (top)
