Like other paintings of artists' studios, this one gives us a glimpse, among other things, of framed paintings on the wall. The frame on the back wall, seen in the upper left, reflects the style of frame used by Bernard Hall and others, in the 1880s and 1890s, a style of frame which may have origins in the frames designed by Edgar Degas.
The frame is made using moulded composition on a wooden chassis. The surface is gilded with a false gold metal leaf, including the slip. The surface is matte throughout.
Good original condition throughout.
