French Impressionism for Primary Students

What is French Impressionism? Who were the key artists and what was new and radical about their art? Explore landscapes, interiors, still life and street scenes and gain a glimpse of life in nineteenth century France in this interactive introductory talk for young learners.

Self-guided entry into the exhibition will follow the interactive presentation.

Students will:

  • Identify the main characteristics and common subjects of French Impressionism
  • Describe the way French Impressionist artists used materials and techniques
  • Discuss themes and ideas present in key works on display in the exhibition

Duration: 30 minutes plus self-guided time in the exhibition
