French Impressionism for Tertiary Students

NGV International

Join an NGV educator for an introduction to French Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Discuss works by some of the leading avant-garde artists at the centre of this radical period This interactive program will provide include opportunities to analyse and interpret themes, ideas, influences, materials and techniques in select works from the exhibition.

Self-guided entry into the exhibition will follow the interactive presentation.

Students will:

  • Identify key historical, cultural and social events that contributed to the development of French impressionism
  • Discuss how the French Impressionists used materials, techniques and processes to realise the intentions in their artworks
  • Analyse and interpret themes, concepts and ideas in French Impressionist artworks and discuss how they are expressed using the art elements and principles

Duration: 45 mins plus self-guided time in the exhibition

• At least one teacher/adult for every 20 students for students in Year 2 or above.
