Introducing French Impressionism Online

Join an NGV educator to learn about French Impressionism and discover who the avant-garde artists at the centre of this radical period were. This interactive discussion will examine themes, ideas, influences, materials and techniques and provide opportunities to analyse and interpret select works from the exhibition.

This online program is an ideal way introduce students to the exhibition prior to a visit.

Students will:

  • Identify key historical, cultural and social events that contributed to the development of French Impressionism
  • Discuss how the French Impressionists used materials, techniques and processes to realise the intentions in their artworks
  • Analyse and interpret themes and ideas in French Impressionist artworks and discuss how they are expressed using the art elements and principles

Delivery of this program will be tailored to suit the level of the students.
