French Impressionism – VCE Art Creative Practice Interpretive Lenses

Mon–Fri, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm
Level: VCE

NGV International

Investigate the ideas, meanings and messages in artworks by the French Impressionists through the three Interpretive Lenses: Structural, Personal and Cultural. Consider how they developed their own unique visual language to communicate ideas and gain confidence in developing informed interpretations of their work.

Aligned with VCE Art Creative Practice, this program gives students an opportunity to analyse artworks by some of the world’s most recognisable artists.

Self-guided entry into the exhibition will follow the interactive presentation.

Students will:

  • Apply the Interpretive Lenses to the analysis of the ideas, meanings and messages of a select number of French Impressionist artworks
  • Develop and support interpretations of artworks with evidence taken from the artworks and with reference to a range of sources
  • Identify the way the Impressionists used visual language to communicate ideas and meanings in their artworks

Duration: 45 minutes plus self-guided time in the exhibition

Cost: $25 per student
